About the Author

Mike has been involved in industrial relations, human resources and management for over forty years.

With a career spanning manufacturing, through public transport to FTSE 100 companies and city councils, Mike has been a negotiator on both sides of the bargaining table as both senior union representative and human resource manager.

Mike is an all rounder who has developed human resource policies and strategies for local authorities and charities, management and workforce development programmes for organisations of all sizes and has represented both employers and employees in employment tribunals.

Having an honours degree in History and Politics, a diploma in Trade Union Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, Mike is able to combine his wealth of experience with an underpinning academic knowledge.

After a long career in the cut and thrust environment of employee relations and the highly rewarding world of employee and management development, Mike now shares his time between providing consultancy services in the Greater Manchester area and writing.
